Working with Barr Group as an Expert Witness

The people who understand the technology should be the ones explaining it to the court. Barr Group exists to make that possible for you without the overhead: we find the cases, we handle the billing, and you do the expert work at your own rate.

"I've never testified."

Many engagements never reach a witness stand. A consulting expert helps the legal team understand the technology, test the strength of the case, and prepare for depositions and trial, without the disclosure that comes with testifying. If an engagement does lead to testimony, the attorneys prepare you, and Barr Group was founded by an engineer who has testified before judges and juries more than two dozen times.

"I don't have time."

Expert work fits around a full-time job. You decide which opportunities to take, there is no exclusivity, and you remain free to take work from any other source. We contact you only when we have a specific opportunity that fits your background and is worth your time to consider.

"Is this legitimate?"

Barr Group is an engineering firm turned expert witness firm, run by electrical engineers and computer scientists. Its experts have worked on matters such as the Toyota unintended acceleration litigation and the Teradata v. SAP trade secret case. There is no fee to join our network and no cost to you for the introductions we make.

How you get paid

You charge your going hourly rate. Our service fee is added on our side of the billing, not taken out of your rate. You send us your invoice and time log in whatever format you already use, we pay you on time, and we invoice the lawyer or their client. You never have to chase a law firm for payment.

What happens when you say yes

  1. We introduce you to the attorney, after a conflicts check, and you decide together whether the fit is right.
  2. If you are retained, you sign a short subcontractor agreement, and we tell you exactly how billing works and whom to call.
  3. You do the work. We stay in the middle on scheduling and billing, so your time goes to the analysis.
